Home vs Truckee

What a great game we played as a team against Truckee.  There are always things to work on and get better from, but the girls are really starting to come around and play as a team.  Not only are we passing, we are moving without the ball to create an open pass for someone.  All I can say is great game.  Truckee won 3-0, but that is the closest game we have had with them.  Here are a few pictures of the game.  Enjoy!

2 Non-League Games

WE had a chance to play 2 teams from our old league in Lowry and Fernley, both games away.  Lowry won 2-1, while we tied Fernley 2-2.  There is just something about Lowry that seems to get Dayton all the time.  I don't know what it is, but there is something.  As for Fernley, they are always a tough game and a 2-2 tie shows it.  They are a well coached team, but I think our girls are too.  That is why we are so much better at the end of each season.

Dayton vs North Tahoe

Another great game against a great team.  The girls played a great game and only had one or two simple breakdowns.  They lost the game 1-0, but again showed the lake teams that we are here to play.  I only have a few pictures of this game.  Serena has a series of pictures as she brings the ball down and makes a nice run with it.  First is what looks like a dangerous play against Suzie.

Dayton vs Whittell

The girls traveled to Whittell to play them for the first time this year.  The girls came out ready to play and took a 2-0 lead into halftime with some great play from everyone involved.  The defense was playing smart, the midfield was staying home, and the offense was making great passes.  Whittell had a few shots in the second half that went off the crossbar, but didn't go in.  Late in the game, Whittell got a goal on a long shot that wasn't contested.  The girls won 2-1 and are making their mark on the lake league.  Way to go girls!  Here are some misc. pictures of the game.

Dayton vs South Tahoe

We knew going in that South Tahoe was going to be good, and that is what they were.  They moved and they moved quickly.  Their passes were crisp and clean.  We lost 5-0, but 2 of them were goals that I never like to give up.  The first one came less than 2 minutes into the game on a cross that I think just caught us asleep.  Then right before halftime they got another goal with a deep shot that went to the upper corner.  I am a firm believer in that the first and last 5 minutes of each half really determine the game.  I think that is what happened to us at Tahoe.  The first goal was really hard for us to take and still stay positive.  The girls just need to keep remembering the games that we have started behind and came back from.  Let's get that first 5 minutes to be ours!

Home vs Incline 9/14

What a game!  Incline is always a powerhouse in girls soccer and we have come very close to beating them a few times, even in the playoffs, but to win today was awesome!  We won 3-2 behind an entire team effort.  There we so many key players that I don't think I can name them all.  We had people in different positions, people willing to go in at new positions, etc.  On a side note, this is only the 2nd time in school history that we have beaten Incline, so a very special game.  Why did we win?  Heart.  The girls wanted more and you could tell.  Our motto is first to the ball, last to give up.  Today was that day.  Our training is starting to show up in a great way.  Thanks to Coach Miklich for pushing us so hard!  Let's keep it up in practice.

After going behind 1-0, we fought back to make it 1-1 on a great pass from Maribel to Heather, where heather took the ball on a long run, beat the goalie in a one on one and passed the ball into the net.  Way to go!  We then took the lead later in the game on a great ball from Serena to Maribel.  Maribel took that ball, also beat the goalie and scored.  We then gave up a PK on a hard play by our goalie, but no one to blame on that.  With the score 2-2 and time running out, we got our break.  A handball just outside the box.  Maribel took the kick and put it in the near post for the game winning goal in the 80th minute.  This was a big game for us.  It shows we can play with the lake teams when we are first to the ball and last to give up.  How do you like the long runs now ladys?

I have some great pictures to post, but I don't have parent permission forms from some girls.  If any of you read this, please let others know to get those turned in.  A signed note from a parent is okay also.

Here are some pictures from the game.

Here is Maribel's first goal beating the goalie near post after making a run past several defenders.
Below is Heather's one on one with the goalie.  What a great job she did of slowing it down, letting the goalie make a move and then making her own move around the goalie, and ending with a great pass to the back of the goal!
Another almost one on one for Heather and the goalie.  I can't believe Heather didn't break her ankle here.

At Yerington 9/13

Dayton Girls Soccer played away at Yerington today and won 7-0.  Without our starting forward and leading goal scorer Maribel, and also not having Amber on the left midfield because of an injury, we had a bit of a slow start.  We also had to pull out our right midfielder Devon for an ankle injury early in the game; but when we pulled up Heather from the defense to play forward things started happening.  Savannah scored first in the 25th minute.  Then Susie scored 5 minutes later, but this was just the beginning for Susie.  Susie assisted Heather in a goal in the 34th minute and then again assisted Heather in another goal in the 37th minute to close out the first half.  Five minutes into the second half, in the 45th minute Susie scored again with an assist from Magda.  In the 71st minute Susie drew a foul in the box coming off a breakaway and was rewarded a penalty kick.  Natasha took the PK and scored.  Two minutes later later Susie scored again in the 73rd minute for a final score of 7-0.
Natasha played Keeper the first half and had 1 save.  Miranda played Keeper the second half and made 3 saves.  I was happy with the team's performance.  It was good to see our younger and newer players get a lot of playing time and make smart plays and fight for the ball.  On the defense, Magda and Savannah came up big as usual and Heather played an incredible game as well both defensively and offensively.  I was also very pleased with DJ and Cassidy who stepped up to play positions that I haven't played them in much.

Sparks

Sparks again? Yes, we played Sparks in Fallon for the opening tournament and we had to turn around and play them again a few days later. In Fallon the girls played well, just not enough to win the ball or the game. This game was bound to be different. The girls started strong, controlled the game, and scored first on a long shot by our stopper. Sparks countered quickly scoring about 5 minutes later to tie things up. At halftime adjustments were made and we were determined to get this win. That didn't happen. Sparks played a better second half than they did in the first. I can't point out 1 thing in particular that we did wrong, they just played a little better than we did. We need to get our legs under us in the end of games. Sparks ended up scoring 3 times in the second half to win 4-1. We get them 1 more time and we will do it. Third time is a charm!

Home vs Fernley

Now that Fernley is in the other division, we thought this game might change a little. It didn't! If you look back to the last game last year vs. Fernley, it was the same story. Just like that game, I still think we are going to score. Fernley outplayed us the first half and took a 3-0 lead into halftime. The second half was a completly different game. The girls began to pass and play the game the way they know how to. The girls scored 2 times to come within 1 goal of tying the game. As the game was coming to an end, we had a few great chances that just didn't happen. The build up to those chances was AWESOME. Some real passing and movement as a team. In the end, it was a hard loss, but a great look into what could be coming if they keep playing the way they ended. Way to fight girls!
